I’ve been working on this mid-century modern dining suite, made in Eastern Europe on and off for three years, see my previous post in 2021 when I began with the chairs!

The table and chairs were headed for the tip, a late 1960s/early 1970s formica top drop leaf table with four chairs with orange vinyl seat pads. It was in good condition for its age, no wobbly legs or broken bits, it just looked tired, scratched, and in need of some tlc. I did a bare wood strip down and it’s not the easiest wood I’ve ever worked with to be honest, with different shades of wood and textures used.

I re-upholstered the seat pads using a modern velvet, Bengal Tiger by PrestigiousTextiles, Briwax wax in rustic pine, Good Home multi surface paint in Princeton. I don’t usually paint onto larger items of furniture, but this time I thought it was needed as I was painting the table top, it just looked better. So check out the pictures!
