Paint, varnish, wax & brushes

Dixie Belle Paint Company chalk mineral paint

I’ve used a few different paint products and here are some of them pictured. I’m not making any recommendations as such, because paint is a personal choice, there are many different paints available and what suits one person may very well not suit another. Personally I don’t like thick paint as it has to be watered down which may result in uneven colour and most of my furniture requires a very smooth finish, but that’s just me.

I use B&Q brushes as shown, they have a rounded handle which I prefer to a flat one, the Annie Sloan detailing brushes are so useful for fiddly jobs. I use a big fat brush for applying wax or a soft lint-free cloth. I’ve used 3 different brands of wax, they’re all good but Briwax gives the most durable finish. I’ve only ever used Polyvine varnish, I absolutely love the finish it gives.
